PQRS Reporting & Submission

The Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2007 provides much-needed financial incentives for eligible providers to support their quality initiatives.

As the 2010 payments to physicians, for example, could total up to two percent of a group’s total Medicare Part B Physician Income, this represents an important potential source of provider revenue.  However, the federal program has extremely rigid guidelines and deadlines for submission of PQRS quality measures data. Many physicians have not participated in this program because of the work burden associated with claims-based CMS submissions. However, CMS has introduced an easier alternative to the painful process of adding G-codes to their claims to earn their PQRS incentive payments: registry-based submissions.
